Pin in the Map

When you have lived overseas as often/long as I have, deciding where to settle feels as random as sticking a pin into a map.
That wasn't quite what we did whne choosing Asheville, NC, but considering we'd never been there and were already trawling for job opportunities and houses, it may have seemed like a leap of faith. There was method in our madness, however.

So many people kept saying 'You guys would love Asheville' and the more we heard, the more we thought we would.

Last weekend after months of talk and planning we made it to Asheville and it was almost scary how much it fitted us as people. No matter where we went the smae thought came back to me - 'I could write here'. I saw me enjoying morning coffee at one of the hip and artistic coffee shops before getting some writing in. I saw me picking up the latest edition of Granta from the independent bookstore, I saw me walking the moutnains to clear my head after a day's work, I saw me discussing writing with others over wine and cheese.

It could be that after all these years we've found home.
